Emergency Food
Distribution Programs |
|
Between July 1, 2004 and June 30, 2005, the FoodBank provided
3.4 million pounds of emergency food to over 270 feeding programs run by
local charities, throughout all of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
Programs include food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters for
homeless or abused persons, after school programs for children and day and
residential programs for low income children, elderly and disabled.
Emergency Food is
provided to families in need through the following programs.

How The FoodBank Works
|
 |
The General
Distribution Program provides charities with
donated food from our warehouse. Charities order and pick up quantities of
food they need from a food list, and later package the items for local
families themselves. |
 |
Family Box Program
distributes prepackaged boxes of foods to pantries and
distribution programs. Boxes contain items sufficient for different size
households to make meals for several days. Picture depicts food to accompany
turkey for one holiday meal. |
 |
Second Helping delivers frozen, prepared meals to soup kitchens and shelters, previously
collected from surplus meals available at area restaurants and caterers. |
 |
The Food Delivery
Program delivers
food directly to charities which do not have the vehicles and manpower to
pick up large amounts of food themselves. |
 |
After School Program
delivers hot meals prepared daily by our onsite kitchen
and culinary trainees, to the after school program of the Monmouth County
Boys and Girls Club. |
|
The FoodBank receives perishable and nonperishable
donated food from many sources, including the USDA, national food companies and local donors.
In addition, about 10% of the food in
our warehouse comes from a Co-op program, which purchases foods that are
needed by charities, but are not available as donations at any given time.
Foods are purchased in bulk at well below retail prices.
