In their own words…
…. I started out serving the children a snack
that consisted of chips and a cold drink. One day, one of the children came
to me and asked for something else to eat because she was hungry and that
they had no food at home…. Without the help of the FoodBank, it would not be
possible to give the children the caliber of meals that are now served in
our program.
Mt. Olive Holy Temple Church of God
in Christ, Neptune
…. Our church membership is approximately 300
families and our average benevolence each month for the food pantry ministry
is $200…. Last year, we gave out 2,688 bags of groceries and fed 3,799
adults and 3,257 children….
First Baptist Church, Toms River
…. Our program provides
supportive housing to over 56 tenants in Monmouth and self-help services to
approximately 40 consumers at the Self-Help Center in Freehold. All of these
persons have psychiatric disabilities and are very low-income, with annual
incomes less than $9,000/year….
Collaborative
Support Programs of NJ, Inc.
…. Our clients are often working but still not making ends
meet. Others live in motels with children while waiting to find
affordable housing. Some are disabled, elderly or unemployed.
Hope Community Church, Manasquan
….
(We) would have a difficult
time helping the people of Bayville, Ocean Gate, and South Toms River were
it not for the resource of the FoodBank….These people are mostly single
working mothers and what I refer to as the "working poor." Families that
sometime must make the choice between paying the rent or purchasing food.
Carpenter’s Hand
Food Pantry, Bayville
….
Approximately 40 of those 100
“families” (we serve) are single senior citizens, with little or no means of
support. The rest of our families all involve children, who might miss a
meal without our help….
Howell Emergency Food
Pantry
…. I am reminded of a family...we now help on
a regular basis….Because I knew she was sick (terminally), I asked her if I
could put meat and cartons of milk in her refrigerator. Her freezer was
empty. Her refrigerator had plain macaroni in it as if she and her teenaged
daughter….were going to eat it later. I have never seen such an empty
kitchen….
Helping Hands,
Epiphany Church, Brick
…. Last year, over 1,000
struggling families, single parents, children, senior citizens and displaced
members of our community were fed… Those who come through our
doors...are given more than just food. They are given hope, encouragement,
prayer, and most importantly, God’s love, which is the power to change. We
see lives transformed, marriages restored, relationships healed, hope
instilled, faith ignited and minds renewed, all because we were able to meet
a basic need.
