Gross income includes (but is not limited to):

  • Earned income from work
  • TANF/General Assistance
  • Social Security
  • Unemployment
  • Workers Compensation
  • Veterans Benefits
  • Child support
  • Alimony
  • Interest and dividends

*The gross income limits do not apply to seniors (60+) and disabled individuals. They must meet less strict net income limits, which factor in deductions for medical, shelter, and other expenses.

2. Resource Level

Previously, households with more than $2,000-3,000 in bank accounts were not eligible for food stamps. As of April 2010, this resource limit has been eliminated. Resources like checking and savings accounts, certificates of deposits, stocks, bonds, owning a house or a car can no longer make people ineligible for food stamps.
